Metaphors and Allegories in Political Speeches
Meyer, Paul Georg and Tatiana Serbina. In Preparation. "Metaphors and Allegories in Political Speeches." In Handbuch der politischen Rhetorik, edited by Armin Burkhardt. Berlin: De Gruyter. <announced for 2018>
This project aimed at analysing the use of metaphors and allegories in the register of political speeches. Against the theoretical background of Conceptual Metaphor Theory, the study identified the main functions of metaphors and allegories in political discourse. These include the evaluative, ideological, argumentative, emotional, bridge-building, and filtering functions as well as the use of metaphors as ready solutions.
A comprehensive commented bibliography and a link collection has been developed within the project.
