IGEL Aachen Training School on the Use of Empirical Methods in Literary Scholarship
August 27 to 30, 2018
In collaboration with the International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature (IGEL), the English Department of RWTH Aachen (IfAAR) and the Aachen Research Team Cognitive Literary Studies (ART CogLit) will host a training school on the use of empirical methods in literary scholarship from August 27 to 30, 2018. In a mixture of lectures held by several world-class researchers in the field and members of the IGEL society and hands-on practice sessions supervised by them, participants in the training school will be introduced to numerous aspects of empirical literary studies such as, for example, experimental designs, quantitative and qualitative methods, and the basics of descriptive and inferential statistics as well as to the software SPSS Statistics. In the hands-on sessions, participants will then apply what they learned in each of the lectures by doing practical exercises with the help of the supervisors.
