8  th  – 10  th  April 2021 (Application Deadline extended)

In this upcoming interdisciplinary online-conference "Narratives of Body and Mind", the Aachen Center for Cognitive and Empirical Literary Studies (ACCELS) wants to connect Master’s students, Ph.D. students and early Post-Docs to examine research in which narrative theory meets narratives of the body, narratives of the mind and the common ground between them. Since the cognitive turn in narrative theory opened up a new research field for literary studies, new and innovative approaches have been developed in various research areas, including the study of narrative. How do approaches such as embodied cognition aim to explain the various phenomena readers encounter during the reading process? Which cognitive models and approaches can be used to account for the building of storyworlds and readers' individual spatial situatedness in these worlds? And how does narration influence the way we situate ourselves within our autobiographical stories?

The conference will take place online between 8th and 10th of April 2021. It is organized by ACCELS, which belongs to the Department for English, American and Romance Studies at RWTH Aachen University. RWTH Aachen University is internationally renowned for its research quality. In this context, ACCELS is Germany’s first research centre that focuses solely on the opportunities and challenges connected to cognitive and empirical approaches to literature.
