Teaching Assistant at Albion College Required
Are you interested in working as a teaching assistant at Albion College, USA for the academic year 2020-21 ?
The Albion College Department of Modern Languages and Cultures is seeking a university student, graduate or advanced undergraduate, who is a native speaker of German to serve as a Native Speaker Teaching Assistant or NSTA for the 2020-21 academic year.
The NSTA is a position of responsibility and prestige at Albion College. The student who accepts this position will live in the college’s living and learning language house, known as the International Space or I-Space, and help German language students improve their fluency through speaking German. Duties include attending language classes and assisting with group activities, planning and teaching small group tutorials, directing language tables, and organizing meaningful cultural activities and events for the students in their language house. The weekly time commitment is about 15-20 hours.
Native speakers usually spend one academic year as a special non-degree student at Albion College from mid- August until the first week of May. Native Speaker status waives the following costs: non-degree, that is auditor tuition for two units of required course work per semester; room in the I-Space; board, that is meals, during the regular academic year when the college cafeteria is open; activity fees, and health insurance coverage from August 1, 2020, through departure from the US, no later than May 31, 2021. In addition, the NSTA receives a monthly stipend of $500 for ten months.
Experience, expertise, and/or training in Second Language pedagogy, and a TOEFL score of 550 or proof of equivalent proficiency in English are required.
