Call for Applications: IGEL Aachen Training School
In collaboration with the International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature (IGEL), the English Department of RWTH Aachen (IfAAR) and the Aachen Research Team Cognitive Literary Studies (ART CogLit) will host a training school on the use of empirical methods in literary scholarship from August 27 to 30, 2018. In a mixture of lectures held by several world-class researchers in the field and members of the IGEL society and hands-on practice sessions supervised by them, participants in the training school will be introduced to numerous aspects of empirical literary studies such as, for example, experimental designs, quantitative and qualitative methods, and the basics of descriptive and inferential statistics as well as to the software SPSS Statistics. In the hands-on sessions, participants will then apply what they learned in each of the lectures by doing practical exercises with the help of the supervisors.
Since the training school aims at a close exchange between supervisors and participants in a rather small group, spots in the training school are, unfortunately, limited.
If you are interested in participating in the IGEL Aachen Training School on the use of Empirical Methods in Literary Scholarship, please send your application to Caroline Kutsch by Tuesday, July 3, 2018.
Your application should contain:
- Your personal information: name, research area/interest, academic status
- A short motivation letter in which you explain why would like to participate in the IGEL Aachen Training School
- A short description of the research project and question that you are developing/working on, if that applies to you
Since we are still in the progress of organizing the training school, we cannot specify whether there will be a participation fee and how much it would be at this point. In any case, it would only be in the double-digit range and kept as small as possible. We will provide further information as soon as we can – but don’t hesitate to apply in the meantime!
We are very excited about hosting this training school and the incredible learning opportunity it provides us with.
If you have any questions about the application process or the training school, contact Caroline Kutsch at any time. We will be looking forward to reading your applications and we will provide you with a more detailed program for the training school as its organization progresses.
