Jessica-Catherine Vaupel studied at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and earned a degree in Linguistics, English and German philology as well as in German and English to become a teacher. Apart from having worked as a student assistant at the Centre for Teacher Education and the English Department at Göttingen University, Jessica worked as a teaching assistant for German at Tendring Technology College in Essex, England, in 2011/2012. She completed her studies with a master’s thesis on temporal gestures of German native speakers in which she examined how talking about different temporal concepts influences the manual gestures of the speakers in space with special focus on temporal axes. Subsequently, from 2017 to 2018, Jessica worked as a research assistant in the Schlözer Programm Lehrerbildung (SPL) at Göttingen University, a project promoted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research with the aim of further improving teacher training. Being part of the SPL-sub-project “Videografie und Reflexionskompetenz”, she took an active part in developing an archive with video vignettes of school lessons for students to train their skills in reflecting on teaching and learning processes.
Jessica joined the Linguistics and Cognitive Semiotics department in April 2018 where she currently plans her dissertation project on the interaction of manual gestures, cognition and communication.
